Making a Headboard for a King Size Bed

    • 1). Measure the distance between the top of your mattress and the floor using your measuring tape.

    • 2). Cut two wooden strips, using your power saw, to a length 30 inches longer than the distance from Step 1.

    • 3). Lay the two strips parallel on the floor resting on their 2-inch wide faces. The outside edges of the strips should be 70 inches apart.

    • 4). Set one plank across both strips, its outside edge aligned with the ends of the strips. It will overlap the outside edges of the strips by four inches on each side. Nail it in position using three evenly spaced nails for each strip.

    • 5). Lay a second plank across both strips, its edge flush against that of the first. Nail in place as you did in step four.

    • 6). Lay the third plank next to the second. Nail in place as with the other two.

    • 7). Sand the face of the constructed headboard using fine grit sandpaper.

    • 8). Paint the sanded face of the headboard, applying as many coats as is necessary to get the look you desire. Allow to dry before installing.
