How to Export MP3s From iTunes to a Smaller File Size
- 1). Launch iTunes on your computer.
- 2). Click on "Preferences" from iTunes' menu.
- 3). Click "General," and then click "Import Settings."
- 4). Click on the pull-down menu next to "Import Using," and then click on "MP3 Encoder."
- 5). Click on the "Setting" pull-down menu, and then click on "Higher Quality (192 kbps)," "High Quality (160 kbps)" or "Good Quality (128 kbps). If you want to re-encode your MP3s to smaller files than those produced using the "Good Quality" compression rate, click "Custom," and then click on a rate ranging from 112 kbps to 16 kbps. The lower the number, the more compression and the lower the resulting audio quality will be, with a correspondingly smaller file size. You can experiment using different settings and see how you like hearing the same song at different compression options. Click "OK" to save the settings changes.
- 6). Click on MP3s in your iTunes window to select the ones you want to export to a smaller size, based on the import settings you selected.
- 7). Click on "Advanced" from the iTunes menu, and then click "Create MP3 Version." The iTunes application will now make copies of the selected MP3s to smaller file sizes. Click on "Music" in the left pane of the iTunes window to see these exported songs.
