How to Repaint Leather Seats

    • 1). Mask the work area. Use newspapers or a drop cloth and cover everything near the seats that is not leather. If the seats have separate headrests, remove them. If necessary, use tape to hold the paper or cloth in place.

    • 2). Put on gloves. Use the leather prep that comes in the kit and apply it with the accompanying sponge. Once applied, rub in the solution with the abrasive pad. This will take some time, but this is what removes the old color. Use this same method for the headrests. Wear the mask if the vapors are irritating.

    • 3). Use another application sponge to apply a layer of color to the seats and headrests. Build the color with thin layers, so that the paint does not run or form bubbles. If either of these things start to happen, simply wipe the paint away with a clean cloth and reapply paint. Let the leather dry completely between layers. This ensures an even saturation of paint in the desired depth of color.

    • 4). Spray on an even coat of finishing spray, after the color has dried completely. Spray the seats evenly, starting and stopping on the newspaper or drop cloth. This will ensure that there is not too much or too little applied in any one area. Let the finishing spray dry and cure for at least 48 hours. Then replace the headrests.
