How to Carve Headstones

Place the stencil proportionately in the desired location on the headstone. - 2). Create guiding lines by lightly cutting over the stencil design with the utility knife, just enough to follow the pattern.
- 3). Sandblast out the design, carefully going over the trace design lines. Hold the sandblaster firmly and keep as steady a hand as possible. Point the sandblaster at the design about an inch away and go over the design as needed for the desired depth.
- 4). Wipe away all the debris and stone dust with a soft cloth.
- 1). Place the stencil design proportionately and evenly over the headstone.
- 2). Trace the design using a pencil and carbon paper. Lay the carbon paper flat over the headstone and press firmly with the pencil to create light outlines.
- 3). Etch the design into the headstone carefully with the laser etching machine. If you don't have this tool, purchase it from an engraver or masonry shop.
- 4). Polish the finished etching design and stone with a soft cloth after allowing the stone to cool off for half an hour.
