How to Make a Drawer With a Roller
- 1). Measure the width, height and depth of the drawer opening. You will build the drawer box one inch smaller than the opening. Drawer slides come in even-numbered lengths so build your drawer box depth to match the drawer slides.
- 2). Measure the thickness of the material you are building your drawer box out of. The front and back will butt-joint into the sides so they will need to compensate for the thickness of the side pieces. Most drawer boxes are built from 1/2-inch-thick material so the front and back will need to be cut one inch smaller than the overall width of the drawer box. The bottom should be cut the exact size of the drawer box.
- 3). Cut each peice using a circular saw. Avoid cutting too quickly to ensure a quality cut.
- 4). Place one side and the front section together so that the end grain of the front butts into the side section. Apply a small amount of glue at the joint and fasten the two together using grabber screws and a power drill. Insert two screws into each joint.
- 5). Place the back into positon and attach it to the side in the same manner. Place the opposite side into positon and attach it using grabber screws.
- 6). Apply a small amount of glue to the edges of the drawer box frame where the bottom will attach. Place the bottom onto the drawer framework. Fasten the bottom to the drawer box using a power drill and grabber screws.
- 7). Place the drawer box roller hardware onto the drawer box side. Position the roller so that it is flush with the bottom and front of the drawer box. Attach both rollers to the drawer box using a power drill and the screws provided.
