Short, intensive summer camps are extremely popular with school-age wrestlers. They provide an opportunity to learn from champion wrestlers and coaches, improve on skills and learn the latest moves in each style of amateur wrestling. There are several highly regarded such camps throughout Florida, with most concentrated in the central part of the state. Fees and options vary with each one. - Ken Chertow is a decorated Olympian wrestler who, in his tenure on the amateur circuit, won three Academic All-American titles, three NCAA All-American titles, two Junior National Championships and two Junior World Championships, among many others. He serves as a mentor to young wrestlers and has created a national franchise of Gold Medal Training camps. The camps teach a systematic approach, breaking down a number of takedowns, as well as a number of variations on top and bottom positions. Chertow appears at every camp for personalized instruction. Every year he offers a date in Florida---as of May 2010, at Stetson University in DeLand. Camp fees as of May 2010 for the Florida dates range from $325 to $495. These prices include housing, all meals, training and transportation.

kenchertow.com - Florida Pride wrestling camps are run by Glenn Goodman, who, as an amateur competitor, won the Cadet Nationals and also became the first Floridian to win a world championship in the 16-and-under age division. In high school, he won four state titles and racked up a 111-0 record. His summer camp is in Clearwater. While most wrestling camps provide instruction to the entire group, Florida Pride divides campers based on experience level, to provide more personalized instruction. These groups function as teams, and the camp ends with a tournament. Camp fees as of May 2010 are either $285 for commuters, which includes lunch and dinner, or $435 for lodgers, which includes housing and three meals a day.

flapride.com - Cozart's Wrestling Camps are run by Russ Cozart, a longtime coach of several championship high school teams in Florida. He has been the head coach of the Brandon Wrestling Club since 1971, and has coached some 91 athletes to individual national championships. (among the athletes he's coached is Florida Pride's Glenn Goodman.) He and 15 other Florida champion wrestlers provide instruction during the camp, which is held in Tampa, close to Brandon. The camp provides daily warm-ups and drills, and covers all styles, from folkstyle, to freestyle, to Greco-Roman. There are also friendly competitions daily, and instruction in the latest takedowns, reversals, escapes, pinning combinations, and riding skills. The camp is open for wrestlers from age 8 to 19, and beginners are welcome. The camp is one of the more inexpensive options, as it runs for only a half-day and does not include housing or meals. As of May 2010, one camp session costs $125.
