How to Make a Crocheted & Open Faced iPod Skin
- 1). Crochet the back of the iPod skin. Make enough chain stitches to match the width of your iPod and then add two additional chain stitches. Half double crochet in the second chain from the hook and in every chain across. Chain one and turn; then half double crochet in every stitch across. Repeat this process until the back of your iPod skin is approximately 1/2 inch longer than the height of your iPod. Fasten off and cut your working yarn, leaving a 10-inch tail.
- 2). Make the same number of chain stitches that you started with in step one; this will begin the front of your iPod skin. Half double crochet back and forth in rows as with Step 1, but stop when the height of your crocheted piece reaches the length from the bottom of your iPod to the bottom of the screen.
- 3). Chain one and turn. Half double crochet in the first two stitches of the next row; half double crochet back and forth across these two stitches in rows until the height of this thin strip matches the height of your iPod screen. Fasten off, leaving a 3-inch tail.
- 4). Attach your hook on the opposite side of the cozy from where you started to crochet in Step 3. Make a half double crochet stitch in the first two stitches on this side, then chain one and turn. Half double crochet across these two stitches in short rows until the height of this side piece matches the side piece you made in Step 3. Do not fasten off.
- 5). Count the number of stitches you left unworked in the bottom section of the front of the iPod skin (the stitches between the two thin side rails you have just crocheted). On your next row, half double crochet the two stitches on the right side of your iPod skin front, then chain the same number of stitches as what you have just counted, and half double crochet the last two stitches in the top of the rail you made first. Chain one and turn and then half double crochet across each half double crochet and chain stitch in the next row. Continue to half double crochet in rows until the piece measures the same height as the back of the skin you made in step one.
- 6). Fasten off the front piece. Position the front and back of the skin together with wrong sides facing. Use your large-eye blunt needle and the extra long yarn you left off in Step 1 to whipstitch the two sides together. Fasten off, cut the extra yarn and slide your iPod inside.
