How to Make a Skirt Out of Bandanas
- 1). Measure your hips at the widest point and add 5 inches to this measurement (extra fabric for seam allowance and fitting ease). This is the total fabric width you will need for your skirt.
- 2). Figure out the amount of bandana fabric you need to create your skirt. Most bandanas are 22-inch squares. This means that two bandanas sewn together will make a skirt with a width of 43 inches (half-inch seam allowance). As long as your measurement from Step 1 is 43 inches or less, you can safely use two bandanas to make your skirt.
- 3). Cut the bandanas to make the required width, if necessary. For example, if your hip measurement is 37 and you add 5 inches, this totals 42 inches. Cut a half inch from one edge of both bandanas.
- 4). Place the bandanas together with right sides facing each other. Measure 6 inches down from the top right corner and mark this point. Measure 6 inches down from the top left corner and mark this spot. Pin the edges below both side marks to secure.
- 5). Sew along the pinned edges, using a half-inch seam allowance. These will be the side edges of the skirt.
- 6). Turn the skirt right side out and try it on. Tie each side edge by tying the loose front and back pieces of fabric together in a double knot at each side hip.
