How to Replant Honeysuckle
- 1). Replant honeysuckle in the fall, when the vine is most dormant and least prone to transplant shock. Put on gloves and dig a hole with a shovel or spade that will accommodate the roots of the honeysuckle.
- 2). Fill a bucket with water and pour half of it into the transplant hole. The extra water will help the honeysuckle's roots recover from transplant shock.
- 3). Follow your honeysuckle vine back to its roots. Unwrap it from whatever it has climbed on, as you go. If you can't untangle it, cut it back with pruning shears, leaving at least 3 feet of vine.
- 4). Dig in a circle at least 1 foot in diameter and 1 foot in depth around the base of the honeysuckle, prying the plant up gently.
- 5). Pick up the root ball with both hands, carry it to the transplant hole and pop it in. Fill in with dirt and tamp it down firmly with your foot to eliminate air spaces around the roots. Pour the remaining water around the base of the plant. Take the remaining dirt back to the original hole to fill it in.
