How to Make Girl's Hats for Toddlers
- 1). Measure the circumference of the toddler's head. Cut a piece of fabric that measures 9 inches by the head circumference plus 1 inch. For example, if the toddler's head circumference measures 19 inches, cut a piece of fabric into a rectangle that measures 9 inches by 20 inches.
- 2). Fold the fabric in half to make a rectangle that measures 9 inches by half the length of the circumference. Fold the rectangle so that the good side of the fabric is facing inward.
- 3). Sew the long side together and then sew one of the 9-inch sides together. This makes the side and the top of the hat. The other side of the hat is made by the fold in the fabric.
- 4). Fold ½-inch of fabric on the remaining open 9-inch-long side of the hat. Sew the fabric in place with a straight stitch to make a clean edge for the bottom of the hat.
- 5). Flip the hat right side out.
- 6). Gather one of the top corners and wrap a small elastic band around the fabric. Repeat with the other top corner of the hat.
- 7). Cut two 12-inch-long pieces of ½-inch-wide ribbon. Wrap one ribbon around each of the gathered corners and tie the ribbons into bows.
- 8). Add a medium-size silk flower in front of each ribbon. Place the flower in the center of the bow and insert a few stitches to hold the flower in place. Repeat with the other gathered corner.
