Directions for Planting Tulip Bulbs
- 1). Place tulip bulbs in a plastic bag with a couple of holes punched in it for ventilation.
Place in the refrigerator's vegetable crisper in late summer for six to eight weeks before planting in your garden. - 2). Find a well-drained, sunny location to plant the tulip bulbs. Remove any debris.
- 3). Mix in a layer of organic matter into the soil to give the tulip bulbs nutrients while germinating.
- 4). Plant the bulbs in the fall six weeks before the first frost when the ground reaches 50 degrees. Plant bulbs in holes 8 inches deep and 8 inches apart. Plant bulbs with the pointed side up, and the root side on the bottom.
- 5). Cover the bulbs firmly with soil. Water deeply.
- 6). Mulch with a thick layer of pine straw to keep the bulbs warm during the cold months ahead.
