How to Build Tracking Devices
- 1). Get an unlimited data plan for your mobile phone from your cellphone service provider. In 2010, these usually cost between $25 and $35 per month, but will save you money in the long run if you use GPS tracking often.
- 2). Find GPS software that suits your needs. A few that you can use are Instamapper , BuddyWay, and Mologogo, all of which are free. These programs were created using Google Maps, so they all look very similar to one another.
- 3). Choose a service. Register by going to the website and choosing a user name and password, and providing an email address and cellphone number.
- 4). Check your mobile phone for a text message with the download link. Once you receive it, open the link using your phone's web-browser and download the application. Install the program and restart your phone.
- 5). Open up the GPS tracking software by going to your phone's menu and then to Applications. Open up the program.
- 6). Start tracking your phone by logging into your chosen GPS service provider. You will be presented with a detailed map that has a small dot (which is usually blinking) with a username beside it. This shows the realtime location of the activated mobile phone; thus, when the phone moves, the indicator on the map also moves. You will also be given additional information, such as the speed the cellphone is moving, its altitude, the longitude and latitude, and its direction. The movement of the phone over the past 30 days is also recorded so you can use it as a reference later.
