Saunas - What You Need to Know Before You Get One!

The most widely reported of the many benefits attributed to saunas include: relieving tension and stress, reducing joint pain, soothing allergies and sinus congestion, removing toxins from the body, enhancing the complexion, and improving cardiovascular health.
Some would argue that reports of these health benefits may be slightly exaggerated, but even the cynics can't deny how much simple pleasure saunas bring to life.
Traditional saunas are small rooms designed to withstand high temperatures and extremes in humidity control.
They are built from aromatic wood, such as cedar or hemlock, and may include little other than a simple bench or two and a heat source.
The heat source may be powered by wood, electricity, natural gas, or propane.
Infrared saunas use light to warm the body without warming the air surrounding it.
These saunas are portable, easy to assemble, and remarkably energy efficient.
They are also easy to clean and maintain.
Steam saunas - self-contained units with steam generators and sealed doors that contain the humidity - are multi-function, space-saving marvels of technology.
Most require little more space than a luxurious shower and few special considerations other than connection to the bathroom's electrical circuits and plumbing lines.
Adding a home sauna can be as simple as assembling a two-piece kit and plugging it into a standard outlet.
On the other hand, it can be as elaborate as commissioning a specially designed, custom-built unit that requires plumbers and electricians as well as skilled craftspeople to assemble and install.
These saunas sometimes include music systems and aromatherapy units.
Saunas are safe and beneficial for most, but not all, user.
People with diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, metal implants, or severe varicose veins are often cautioned about using saunas.
The best advice is to consult your doctor before adding a sauna to your bathroom, especially if you fall into any of the categories mentioned.
