Restaurants are one of the greatest treasures in any city. In places like New Orleans, Miami, Boston, Chicago, or PhiladelphiaI, diners expect a certain style of food that is associated with the regional cuisine. An individual is hard pressed to go to one of these food vacation spots and not be inundated with a list of top places to get a cup of this, a bowl of that, or a plate of fabulous food and memories.
One of the first things people do when they move to a new place or live in the same place for years is explore the local eateries. When a friend or family member ventures to town, two of the first questions they will ask is what have you been up and where are the good places to get a bite to eat?
So, what will a person recommend? Have they truly explored their own city yet? What does anyone really look for, for themselves, their family or their visitors? Will a relaxed family-style environment do, or will the fancy jacket and tie environment be the only place that will do?
Restaurants only have a limited number of ways to impress and fulfill their customers. They have their food offerings, their drink offerings, their service, and their decor. As far as food, they typically have food that fits into a particular style with the ingredients common to a country, region or dietary ideas such as Chinese, Jamaican, Mexican or vegetarian. Or it can be a fusion of cultures with the most popular being Asian fusion with an American or Latin flare. Or the chef is drawing in inquisitive customers with what he or she is doing with chemicals, exotic ingredients, cooking techniques or presentation to create something a little more scientific, extravagant, or quirky on each plate. On the other hand, the decor or atmosphere is often times quite simple but it adds to the experience as well. The colors, materials, flooring, bar, plants and table tops should complement the food on the plate, not overshadow it.
Most people who have several favorite restaurants have already sampled a wide range of their local dining options. That's why it is a special find when there is a city with streets scattered with amazing dining. Whether one place is excellent at hors d'oeuvres; while another has an excellent selection of entrees; while another one still is well known for knocking a customer's socks off with their dessert menu; the street draws crowds just as much if not more than the individual restaurants do. Dining is an experience and in today's food industry, it is mandatory that more places advance their selections of product, their preparation techniques and dining atmosphere if they want to attract and keep the clientele.
