Dragon Headboard

  Make the bed headboard into a fierce, coiled dragon --or a friendly cartoon dragon--to evoke the classic mythological monster that is often depicted attacking knights and castles. The top edge of the headboard can be cut into pointed shapes, like the spines sometimes shown on a dragon's back, or the whole headboard can be carved into the silhouette of a dragon. Painted accents should be added to the headboard to show the dragon's face and details of its body.
  
  

Crown Pillows

  Sew two large pillows shaped like crowns in homage to the most important residents of any castle: the queen and the king. Select a yellow shade of felt and purchase enough fabric to suit the desired dimensions of the crown pillows. Trim the felt in the shapes of crown silhouettes, sew the edges together (leaving a small opening), and turn the fabric shapes inside out for neater seams. Stuff the pillows and sew the small opening shut.
  
  

Castle Walls Bed Frame

  Paint the bed frame to resemble the stacked stone walls of a traditional castle. This castle bed project is best suited to wooden bed frames, as metal frames tend to be narrow and may not allow paint to adhere as well as it would to wood. Apply a base coat of a light neutral paint color, such as gray or yellowish white. Use other paint colors to add outlines of stacked stones and areas of light, shadow and discoloration, conjuring the weathered stone walls of a castle.
  
  

Heraldic Crest Canopy

  Crown the castle bed with a canopy bearing a heraldic crest, also called a coat of arms. This project works particularly well if the bed already has posters and is equipped for a canopy. Start with a ready-made canopy that fits the bed you are converting to castle style. Design a coat of arms using the favorite colors and symbols of the person to whom the bed belongs. Paint the coat of arms very large on the underside of the bed canopy. Alternately, applique a coat of arms using multicolored felt.
