    Planting Depth

    • Orient the tubers horizontally and plant them in a hole that is 2 to 4 inches deep. If you plant multiple tubers, space them 8 to 12 inches apart.

    Considerations

    • For best growth and plant performance, the planting site for the gloriosa lily needs a full sun location, receiving at least eight hours of direct sun daily. Choose a fertile soil that is enriched in organic matter. A moist but well-drained soil is necessary. Do not plant where soil remains soggy or floods after rain.

    Geography

    • On planted, Rothschild's gloriosa lily can remain in the ground and grow as a perennial in U.S. Department of Agriculture Plant Hardiness Zones 8 and warmer. In colder winter regions, let fall frost kill the foliage and then dig up the tuber to overwinter indoors. Place it in a cool, dry, dark place where frost won't occur.
