How to Adjust Brake Pedal Height in a VW Beetle

    • 1). Take the Allen screw under the right side chrome cover and remove it. You can find the Allen screw just in front of the foot peg.

    • 2). Locate a threaded rod and follow the pedal upward. Find the distance between the pedal and the point at which it attaches to the rod.

    • 3). Place a dot of Whiteout on the part of the rod that is facing down toward you.

    • 4). Turn the locking nut counterclockwise until you reach the height you want. You will need two line wrenches. Watch the Whiteout dot and don't let the rod rotate while you loosen the nuts.

    • 5). Use a pair of pliers to rotate the rod. Adjust the rod until the brake pedal has the free play and height you want. Tighten the lock nut back on the rod. Turn the nut clockwise to tighten.

    • 6). Check the brake light switch. Adjust this switch so that it functions properly with the brake pedal.
