Definition: 1. First World War acronym for 'American Expeditionary Forces', the military forces of the United States of America operating in Europe during World War One. The first of the AEF arrived in France in mid-1917 under General Pershing and remained until the war ended in 1918, when they numbered over two million.
2. Second World War acronym for the 'Allied Expeditionary Forces', the mixture of US, UK, French, Canadian and other forces operating together as allies in North-West Europe from 1944-45.

3. Acronym for Afrique Equatoriale Française, French Equatorial Africa.
