EASY ANSWERS WHILE YOU SLEEP: Learn the Language of Dreams
Dreams come in images - which is appropriate because to understand dreams, you must understand that the brain thinks in images. When you think of a tree, you don't think of the word "tree" in your brain or the letters "t-r-e-e". What likely happens is that when someone says "tree", you get a picture of a pine, oak, birch or some other tree.
If you hear "dog", you probably think of your dog or perhaps a favorite dog growing up. You get a picture of a dog in your head.
When man first began to write, he used pictures. (Think cave paintings.)
Dreams function in images and symbols. It's a natural, efficient way to communicate, and all it takes is an understanding of how to work the images to get the meaning.
These are some of the elements to pay attention to and how to get the information from these images:
Colors:
Notice any? (Beige counts as a color.) If there's an absence or a variety, if it's monochromatic, that's color. If you're wearing clothes or shoes, what color are they? Is anything an unusual color...like orange raccoons, for example?
Animals:
Any animals in your dreams? Take a look at the historic and shamanic meaning of those animals. What, if any, meaning do those animals have for you personally? Remember...what you think or associate is most important.
Location and Timing:
Where is the dream happening - jungle, city (which city), desert? Then, name five adjectives for the location - kind of like word association. That'll get you started in the direction of what this image means for you. Then, pay attention to YOUR location in the dream as well as your location in relationship to the objects or people in your dream. Are objects to your left or to your right, in front or in back? When do these objects appear in the dream?
Perspective:
Are you watching everything in the dream, like watching a movie? OR are you participating...or are you both participating and watching?
Weather:
Is it partly cloudy, sunny, or raining? Is there a thunderstorm in the distance?
Patterns:
Are certain things repeated dream to dream? Perhaps you visit a certain house in several different dreams. This is why you should never worry about "missing" something in a dream. When a message is important and you "miss" it, it will repeat itself until you get it.
Crystals, stones, rocks, jewels:
These can be stones you pick up or rings on your fingers. It could be a boulder you sit on in the dream. With crystals and stones, it's important to pay attention to both the type of stone and the color.
Language:
What's said in the dream? Notice if anything is repeated. It's also important to pay attention to what's not said...and whether or not you can understand what's being said.
It's important to remember that dreams are a world unto themselves. Getting to know your dream world is like getting to know a new best friend - fun, exciting, and it can take time. Each relationship has its own norms and ways of functioning. You'll learn more about your dreams as you get to know them better.
Dream interpretation can lead to not only an understanding of your dreams...but a greater understanding of yourself, the world around you...and a solid trust in yourself and your ability to navigate a variety of circumstances.
Dreams are a door to opportunity. Dreams are shorthand therapy sessions - if you know how to unlock their secrets.
Sweet dreams!
