How to Find a SEER Rating

    • 1). Refer to the owner's manual for your heating/cooling unit. Search the Index or Table of Contents section for the SEER rating or "energy efficiency."

    • 2). Open a Web browser and navigate to the manufacturer's website for your HVAC unit. The SEER rating will be listed under "Heating and Cooling Efficiency Ratings."

    • 3). Locate the access panel found near the bottom of the unit. Remove the screws holding the cover in place; read the back for information on your unit. The SEER rating should be included: this is a two-digit number followed by SEER. The number will be at least 13 digits for units made after 2006. Contact the manufacturer with information regarding your unit's model, make and serial number and ask for the SEER number if you cannot locate it on the panel cover.

    • 4). Contact the manufacturer or a dealer that carries your type of unit. Give the representative the unit's model, make and serial number and ask for the SEER number if you cannot locate it on the panel cover. The unit's serial number is imprinted on the rear of the access panel door.
