A Shin Splint Taping Technique
- Taping works best when applied directly to the skin, so the lower leg will needs to be shaved. If this is not possible, underwrap will need to be applied first. Use a skin adhesive to keep the underwrap in place.
- Start taping at the bone on the inside of the ankle. Apply tape across the front of the ankle and around the back of the Achilles tendon. Proceed diagonally across and up the front of the shin. Be sure not to tape too tightly over the Achilles tendon, as this will reduce circulation and range of motion. However, make sure to keep pressure on the front of the shin.
- Repeat taping at least twice, overlapping the first wrap and proceeding up the shin. Make sure the tape covers the painful area on the inside of the shin. Be sure to wear the tape all day to keep pressure off the injury, allowing the shin to rest.
