Original Air Date:
Friday, February 27, 2009
Paula Deen Makes A Scene:
Oprah and Gayle began the Friday Live show (Ali and Mark were both away filming movies) with a clip of Paula Deen at the South Beach Food & Wine Festival where here pants slipped off in-front of a live audience! Paula joined Oprah & Gayle via Skype from her home kitchen in Savannah where she explained how wearing Spanx made her pants too big and they slipped right off.
Gayle commended Paula for playing the scene off as no big deal instead of running off stage.
An Oscar High with Dustin Lance Black:
Still running on an Oscar high, Oprah and Gayle highlighted the acceptance speech from Best Screenplay winner Dustin Lance Black for his work on Milk. Dustin joined the ladies via Skype from Hollywood to share about his experience. Lance shared how he met Oprah a few days before the awards where she assured him that his work was already a success - the conversation made him feel that he had achieved his going of reaching the audience the way he intended. Oprah pointed out Milk's life-saving message while Lance responded how he felt a responsibility to the story of Harvey Milk.
Steve Harvey - Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man:
Steve Harvey - one of the Original Kings of Comedy and radio show host - joined Oprah and Gayle to discuss his #1 bestselling book, Think Like A Lady, Act Like A Man. Saying it was the first project he ever did that wasn't about the money, Oprah expressed how great she though the book was - insightful and funny - and began to point out her favorite parts.
One of Oprah's favorite ideas in the book arrived on page 22, where Steve brings up the issue of a man introducing a woman as "friend or with a specific title - saying, you're going nowhere if he isn't giving you a title - men are territorial.
Continuing on the subject, Steve explained that a man will give his partner a title because he is proud of her and has plans for her. Men approach women with a plan when they see something they want, according to Steve, and attempt to find out how much it will cost them - not financial only, but time, standards, etc. Steve revealed that men will rise to meet a woman's standards, women have just lowered them significantly for most men.
Steve shared a story of his daughter dating and trying to find out the plan from the boy - since they always have one. Eventually, the boyfriend stated that they were just "kickin it" - Steve pointed out that she deserved to know his intentions. They broke up the next day. To explain a bit about men, Steve compared them to fishermen - do you have a sport fisherman or one who is fishing to keep? Steve explained to women that we need to present ourselves with standards and requirements for the men to reveal their plan, and rise to meet them. The man is only in control when a woman lets him be in control.
Don't relinquish you power for acceptance! - Steve points out. This point led to the big question - when to have sex in a new relationship? Steve used an analogy to explain his sex rule - Ford has a 90 day probation period for employees before they get their benefits package - shouldn't you? Don't pass out the benefits until you know he's worthy of the, explained Steve. "You can't run them off if they want you" according to Steve - if a man is really into you, he will be willing to meet your standards.
Viewer Questions for Steve Harvey:
Two women asked Steve questions via Skype - is sex on the first date ok and what does it mean when a man only gives out his cell or email?
Steve explained how men are the ones who created the terms "nag" and "tease" so that women would require less from them. You can expect respect, consideration, time, concern from your partner and not run him off if he deserves you.
According to Steve, if you want a relationship you need to be face-to-face - not through Facebook, email, texting. If a man is only willing to give out so much, use your intuition, says Steve, and drive by his house looking for a swingset.
More Relationship Advice with Steve Harvey:
Because Steve was only able to get to a few viewer questions, Oprah declared that he would be returning so that they could devote an entire show to his straight relationship advice.
Jennifer Hudson:
With an amazing performance at the Super Bowl with 98 million people watching and a Grammy win for Best R&B Album, Jennifer Hudson's career is pulling her through and out of a tragic personal experience with the loss of her mother, brother and nephew.
