Wickenburg Poltergeist

After a separation from my husband in April, 2001, I needed somewhere fresh to start over. My son and his family had been living in a small rental house in Wickenburg, Arizona and were moving to a larger place and felt this little house would be perfect for me. So I moved there from Colorado to begin a new life. This was a little old two-bedroom house built in the 1930s, but it was cozy. So my little Schnauzer and I moved in.

I had several battery-operated clocks that always had kept perfect time, but soon after settling in I noted that none of the clocks would stay synchronized anymore, and the batteries kept dying after a few weeks. Then when I would be watching TV or listening to music, the TV or stereo would suddenly turn off by themselves. I'd turn them back on and sometimes it would happen again.

At night I would hear footsteps walking back and forth in the kitchen and the faint sounds of Big Band music, but no one was there. When I mentioned these things to my son and daughter-in-law, they admitted that they had similar experiences when they lived there, but were afraid to tell me.

One night I was sitting and watching television with my little dog sitting beside me in the chair when all of a sudden he looked up at the ceiling in the corner of the room and started trembling violently, his eyes got big, hair standing on end, and I could tell he was terrified. When I tried to calm him down, he jumped down and hid behind the chair, still shaking, and I noticed that he had actually urinated in the chair!

Poor baby, he was so scared and he had never done anything like that before.

Once he calmed down I went into the kitchen to get something to drink out of the refrigerator when I felt someone put a hand on my shoulder and squeeze rather forcefully. I quickly turned around to see who or what was there, but didn't see anyone. Another time when my mom was visiting, I let her sleep in my bedroom and I slept on the daybed in my office. In the middle of the night all of a sudden the computer turned on by itself with the speakers blasting. I know I had shut everything off before I went to bed, as I always did every night.

After awhile I got tired of the TV being turned off in the middle of a program, so I said out loud, "I am watching that and I don't appreciate it when you do that. Please stop!" and it never happened again after that. I lived in that house for almost two years, and though I never felt threatened, I finally had enough of this unseen roommate and moved out. I know I wasn't crazy because I've talked to others who have lived there and had similar experiences.
