Success strategy number one. There is a massive difference between a website that looks beautiful, and a website that makes you money. There are many websites that have graphics animation and lots of bells and whistles, but are they making any money? Don't get caught up thinking that you have to have everything that your web designer says. Unfortunately most web designers don't have an internet marketing background?
But you don't need to spend a lot of money on a website, you just want a website that looks okay, but makes sales. In fact it has been proven, that "ugly" sites sell better than fancy expensive looking sites. There's lots of things on a website that make a difference between whether it's good or bad. Your website wants to get you results; it doesn't want to just look good.
Success strategy number two. The first thing you want to understand when it comes to getting a website is your domain; you want to be the master of your domain, meaning you want to own your domain name. The very first step to being on the web is getting a web presence, and there is an important differentiation here in that you need to be mindful that you are building an international business and not just a local one. So, Why would you only have one website that is.au or.nz or.net? When you are building an international business, ".com" is what you want on the end of your business name. It has been shown that 90% of people just type in the name and then.com. It's really important when choosing a domain name that you choose something that you can have.com. When you go to register your domain name and you discover that someone else has already got it, reconsider your business name if you are just starting out.
Success strategy number three. You also need to make sure that you own your domain name. For example, you might own a website, but when your domain name was registered, your website builder registered it under his company, and you do not want that to happen, you want to be the owner. If you got your website designed by a web designer and you're not sure if you are the owner of your domain, you want to contact your webmaster or the person who put your site together, and say to them, "Do I own my domain name" "Because if I don't, I would like you to transfer it to me", You need to make sure that your name is listed as the registrant, the technical contact, and the support contact. Because if your webmaster does a runner you want to be that person who owns that domain, otherwise you will have no access to it
Success strategy number four. One of the easiest ways to find out whether you own your website name is go to Godaddy.com and pretend you're going to buy your domain name. It will ask for your domain, so you type in your domain name, and it'll say "Sorry, this domain is not available". But next to it will have a "who is" look up. Once you click on that, it will take you to a page that tells you who owns the website, when it was created, who's the registrar, who's the support person, who's the technical support. If your name isn't there, you want to get that changed through your webmaster as soon as possible.
