    Date Coupon

    • The promise of time spent together is a gift for both father and child. Help your child choose and plan a special "date" to take her father on. This should be an excursion that they'll both enjoy and can be as simple as a walk in the park or an afternoon spent at the mall together. Once she has chosen her idea, help your child can make a coupon illustrating her plan by decorating a small rectangular piece of paper. On Valentine's Day, have your children present their date coupons to Dad.

    I Love You Book

    • Any father will treasure a book full of pictures and memories. Write "I Love You Because..." at the top of several pieces of paper. Older children can write this themselves. Ask your child to decorate each page with a different reason he loves his father; for instance, because he takes him to baseball games or because he gives the best hugs. Finish off the book by gluing on pictures of your child with his father. Create a book cover and staple the pages together.

    Decorative Box

    • No matter what he does for work, most fathers can make use of a box to store pens and office supplies. Buy a small wooden or cardboard box from a craft store or use small empty food boxes such as a box that holds tea bags. Remove the top to make an open box. Help your child cut and glue photos of herself with her father all over the box; then glue on letters spelling out "Happy Valentine's Day." Paint a layer of decoupage medium over the entire surface to seal it.

    Card

    • A handmade card is much more personal than a store-bought card. Rather than making a simple card with a picture of a heart and a scrawled signature, help your child make a personalized card for Daddy. Give your child a piece of construction paper to fold into a card, then pass out magazines and scissors so he can cut out pictures that represent his father. If Dad loves sports, cut out pictures of baseballs or football players. Help your child glue these pictures all over the card; then glue a paper heart on top of the pictures. Write a message on the heart.
