How to Clean Silk Scarves
- 1). Clean any stains immediately. Place a small amount of stain remover on the scarf, and blot it with a paper towel.
- 2). Fill a sink or a small tub with lukewarm water. Add mild detergent, and mix it into the water.
- 3). Dunk your silk scarf into the water-detergent mixture. Rub it very gently with the soapy solution for several minutes. When the scarf is clean, drain the sink.
- 4). Use cool water to thoroughly rinse your silk scarf. When the detergent is rinsed off, fill the sink again with cool water and pour in 1/4 cup of white vinegar. Rinse your silk scarf in this solution to restore its natural sheen.
- 5). Remove the vinegar smell by draining the sink and filling it with only cool water. Rinse your scarf in the cool water, and then drain the water.
- 6). Do not wring silk to remove excess water. This will cause the material to become weaker. Instead, place the scarf on a towel. Roll up the towel, and leave the scarf in the towel overnight.
- 7). Dry your silk scarf completely by ironing it at a low to medium setting.
