Freedom of movement
Under the Directive 2004/38/EC of the EU Parliament identifies the right of residents of the EU and their family members to travel and live freely inside the territory of the Member States defines the right of free movement for citizens of the European Economic Area (EEA), which includes the European Union (EU) and the three European Free Trade Association (EFTA) members Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein. Switzerland, which is a member of EFTA but not of the EEA, is not bound by the Directive but rather has a separate bilateral agreement on the free movement with the EU.
Citizens of all European Economic Area (EEA) member states and Switzerland holding a valid passport or national identity card enjoy freedom of movement rights in each other's territory and can enter and reside in the each other's territory without a visa.
Non-EU/EEA/Swiss citizen Family members
A relative of a European Union or European Economic Area or Swiss resident who has a residence permit showing their status is free from the necessity to hold a visa while visiting the EU, EEA or Swiss Area when they are with their European Union/European Economic Area/Swiss family member or are looking to join them. Although the United Kingdom requires family members to have a unique authorization in order to visit the UK. Non EU family members do require a Schengen Visa prior to travel to Switzerland even if they have a valid United Kingdom residence permit that clearly states that they are the family member of a European Economic Area Citizen.]
How to obtain French Schengen Visa
STEPS INVOLVED
1. Traveler should first recognize which Schengen country is the core destination. This decides the country accountable for deciding on the Schengen visa requisition and therefore the embassy or the high commission, consulate where the traveler have to file the application.
2. Some Schengen countries embassy or the high commissions or the consulates require visa applicants to take an appointment in prior coming to embassy for visa.
3. In some countries, the embassy where the traveler has to file his or her application may have appointed an external service provider to gather and return applications. For this service the service provider may charge some extra service fee in addition to Normal Embassy Visa Fee.
4. The traveler should submit the Schengen visa application to the embassy or high commission/ consulate or you can submit your application to appointed external service provider.
5. The visitor cannot apply for the Schengen Visa before 3 months he/she intended to travel to any Schengen area.
6. A Schengen Visa application form is to be submitted together along with valid passport necessary documents showing the purpose of the visit in the Schengen country.
7. The visitor has to prove his financial grounds that he has enough funds to support his/her trip to the Schengen area.
8. Along with all these you need to appear in person at the embassy for the biometric verification.
9. Last but not the least the visitor should have travel insurance that covers, at least ‚¬30,000.
10. A decision must be given within 15 calendar days of the date on which the Schengen Visa application was filed.
11. The fees to get Schengen visa is set at ‚¬60. Children's who are of 6 to 11 inclusive pay a visa fee of ‚¬35 also The Georgian, The Russian and The Ukrainian passport holders. Children who are below the age of 6, students and the teachers whose purpose is of study or educational training, some kind of scientific researchers and also the representatives aged 25 or are under the non-profit organizations attending events organized by NGO have their visa fee completely waived
