How to Troubleshoot a Kirby Sentria
- 1). Verify that the Kirby Sentria is plugged into a working power outlet if the vacuum cleaner is not working. Reset the fuse or circuit breaker if necessary.
- 2). Turn off and unplug the unit if setting the vacuum into "D" (drive) mode does not make it easier to propel. Open the soleplate on the vacuum head and examine the primary belt. Replace the belt if cracked or broken. Replacement belts are available through Kirby or online.
- 3). Empty the disposable dirt bag if the bag is full or a smell begins to emit from the vacuum. Remove the bag assembly from the vacuum and take off the plastic bag top. Remove the strap holding the bag to the plastic part of the vacuum. You may need to cut this plastic strap and replace it with a cable tie or other tie if it does not come loose easily. Wash the cloth bag in the washing machine in cold water and a delicate cycle. Turn it inside out and allow it to air dry. Use an old toothbrush to clean inside the plastic connector on the vacuum and then reassemble the parts.
- 4). Turn off the Sentria and check the hose and nozzles for potential obstructions if there is low suction. Remove the obstruction. Empty the dirt bag and look for possible blockages inside the fill tube, located in the cloth bag, or the bottom plastic tube. Check the exhaust nozzle as well.
- 5). Contact Kirby for assistance if the Sentria gets stuck in the forward or reverse position, as the slide bracket mechanism may not be lubricated properly and may be missing the guide block. This will require professional repair.
