How to Use an Amprobe Locator
- 1). Connect one of the remote identifiers, which looks like a small box with an input jack, to the outlet you want to trace (electrical, coaxial, telephone, etc).
- 2). Bring the circuit tracer (the large Amprobe handset) to the terminating box for whatever system you're trying to map. The terminal box is the point of convergence of all of the cords that belong to the system you are trying to trace (electrical, coaxial, telephone, etc).
- 3). Attach every cable in the box to the circuit tracer until you receive a signal from the remote identifier hooked to the outlet. This notifies you that the wire hooked to your handset corresponds to the outlet hooked to your remote identifier.
- 4). Determine if a circuit has been damaged by connecting a remote identifier to one end and the handset to the other. If you do not receive a signal from the remote identifier, the circuit has been broken. Before performing this process, you must know for sure that both points on the circuit that you've connected to exist on the same wire.
