How to Fit a Door Stop
- 1). Examine the sweep of the door. Open and close the door a couple of times.
- 2). Mark the spot on the baseboard with a pencil. The baseboard should be 1 1/2 inches from the edge of the door and 1 1/2 inches from the floor.
- 3). Drill an 1/8-inch hole in the baseboard. Install the doorstop on the baseboard.
- 1). Remove the top pin from the top hinge. The door should be closed.
- 2). Place the doorstop on the pin at the top. The rubber pads should be sideways so the door hits the pads.
- 3). Replace the pin. Lightly tap the pin in place with a hammer until it is secure.
- 4). Adjust the doorstop. The hinge-style doorstop may be adjusted to the precise point where you wish to stop the door.
- 1). Locate the appropriate area on the floor. The doorstop should be 1 1/2 inches form the edge of the door and 1 1/2 inches from the wall.
- 2). Drill the holes for the doorstop.
- 3). Install the doorstop. The floor style has a rubber tip. The rubber tip should face toward the door.
- 1). Locate the spot where the doorknob touches the wall. Mark the spot with a pencil.
- 2). Place the doorstop on the marked spot on the wall. The wall-mounted doorstop is a metal circular ring with a protective rubber ring to cushion the doorknob. Mark the spot for the screws with a pencil. The wall-mounted doorstop will have two or three holes.
- 3). Drill the holes for the doorstop. Screw the doorstop into place.
