Remove and Replace Your Water Heater

105 9
Most people don't give a second thought to the contraption that magically heats up their water. The water heater only attracts their attention when their hot shower is interrupted, signaling that it's time to replace their water heater.

Before deciding to replace your water heater yourself, you should know that it is no easy task and hiring professionals to take care of the replacement is best. But if you are still adamant about doing the job yourself, then you may find the following information beneficial:

The Removal
The first thing you need to do, before you start the water heater removal process, is to see why the heater stopped working. Your inspection may reveal something that can be easily repaired. But if the heater is beyond repair then you can start the removal process.

€ Most of the water heaters are either electric or gas, so terminate the connection of the electricity or gas supply.
€ You need to completely drain the water inside the water heater. Open all faucets and use the drain in the heater to empty its tank.
€ Disconnect the water lines, gas line and the vent; you may need to cut the lines in some cases.
€ Time to move out the heater but remember even after the tank is empty; it will still be pretty heavy. So don't try to lift it by yourself.

The Replacement
€ Place the new water heater in the right spot; you can buy a solar water heater to save on energy costs.
€ Attach the water pipes, gas line and the vent. If you cut the pipes then you will need to solder them together.
€ Inspect lines for any leakages, use a detergent and water mixture to check the gas line.
€ Before turning on the water make sure the faucets are still open. There won't be any air trapped in the lines if you run the water through for a couple of minutes.

It may seem like a simple process when you read about it, but it is not as simple as it sounds. The equipment needed to perform the replacement is not present in most homes. So it is still ideal to hire a professional plumbing service to take care of the replacement and save yourself the hassle.
