Guide Review - The My Little Pony G1 Collector's Inventory
I knew Hasbro's My Little Pony toys were widely popular, but with no little girls living in our household at the time, we weren't My Little Pony collectors. What an eye-opening experience to see just how many toys were produced in the GI (1982 - 1997) early years of My Little Pony.
Author Summer Hayes celebrates the 25th Anniversary of the My Little Pony brand with a colorful, resourceful booking covering all the G1 Ponies and assorted merchandise issued in the United States.
This is one of those books that will soon have dog-eared pages and lots of bookmarks as collectors enjoy flipping back and forth through the different pages.
Questions and Answers with Summer Hayes:
Q: Do you personally collect all three generations?
A: I collect all three generations and currently have over 1800 different My Little Ponies in my collection. I love all of the related My Little Pony licensed merchandise and accumulated a rather large collection of assorted items.
Q: How do you display your items?
A: My collection is displayed in a spare bedroom, affectionately called the Ponyroom. I have shelves and cases that are floor to ceiling filled playsets.
Q: Where is the best place to find G1 ponies?
A: Search through bins at flea markets and yard sales are good if you're looking for a bargain, but most collectors look at auction sites, as well as collector message boards.
Q:What's the most important thing a beginning collector should keep mind?
A: Do your research. Learn about pony values so you don't overpay for common ponies. Ask for pictures from sellers.
Q: What is the "Holy Grail" for collectors?
A: The most expensive US pony would have to be Rapunzel. She is named after the fairy tale character with extremely long hair. Due to her limited availability through mail order, she demands very high prices.
