American Idol - A Celebration of Failure
The more television postures itself to celebrate failure, pain, suffering, sex, material objects, and 'drama'.
AMERICAN IDOL is such an example.
OK, let's give the devil his due ol' chap.
YES, King Simon has knighted many new pop idols.
Many of whom will most likely come and go like parachute pants and Jack Tripper Bell Bottoms.
NOT for the charity of the artist or the good of the music industry shall King Simon do this; More so for the sheer profit of owning that of a young artist with the desires of stardom and willing to sell their souls in order to achieve that.
Just ask the artists that 'made it' as a result of American Idol and how much money they needed to return to Simon in order to increase his net worth.
So yes, all the while, Simon is making stars out of people who may not have had an opportunity otherwise and getting in a few snide remarks in the process.
NOW, because I am someone that believes in dreams and telling it 'the way it is', I respect the direct approach.
However, if at all possible, I would NEVER destroy one's hopes and dreams by telling them how 'despicably awful and horrendous' their voice was or in my own case, how horrible their body IS.
I understand that SOMEONE must tell these 'out of touch' humanoids that they 'may not' exactly possess what it takes to reach super stardom.
Maybe there could be a better way to do it without robbing someone of his or her dignity?I'm sure it doesn't exactly make good T.
V.
, as ratings would depict.
Perhaps I'll never be a ga-zillionaire as I would never do that.
I suppose I believe in the greater good and not destroying someone's feelings for my own increased wealth and gain.
Maybe Idol needs someone to commit suicide after a national level embarrassment to revisit ratings strategy? I guess that would just boost ratings further, reflecting exactly what our society truly possesses deep in its heart.
I guess I find it truly unbelievable how our society seeks to watch others' misery like a car accident on the side of the road, looking for that dead body and thanking God all the while that 'it isn't me'.
However, it's SOMEONE's mother, father, brother, sister, son, or daughter.
SOMEONE'S life is going to be irrevocably changed forever.
Does anyone think along those lines on their way to the sushi bar, Mandee's, or DSW shoes when they drive by an accident? Does anyone think about the destructive harm that might be done to the innocent few that cross Idol's path in search of a dream, only to smacked down by the almighty hand that serves us the next Idol? Maybe if Idol was delivering to me the next Lennon or McCartney, Elvis, Janis Joplin, or Barbara Streisand, I'd be a bit more understanding.
But, we're just being hand fed the next breed of 'one-hit wonders' that won't change the music world with their 'bubble gum' typical top-40 hits that will never EVER be compared to the likes of The White Album, Elvis' Golden Hits, Frank Sinatra, or any Motown Artist.
I guess you might as well keep beatin' em' down Simon! Our society needs to see more celebration of the failures of those who, at the very least, showed up! Our society needs more advancement of finance and not of harmony and success.
We need more negativity and argument.
We need more war.
What the hell! Let's have the absolute worst of Idol publicly ridiculed while tied to a post and let's all throw sour fruit at them! Let us continue this downward descent of civilization by melting the polar ice, destroying the ozone, and turning everyone into a Hippocratic religious buff!Let us celebrate the failures of our civilization and continue the downward spiral to our pitiful self annihilation! All hail the King! ( And you thought IDOL was just a silly television program!)
