KZG PTI Driver
KZG PTI Driver
The "PTI" in the name of the KZG PTI Driver stands for "performance through innovation." The latest driver from KZG is aimed at mid- to high handicappers and carries a starting price of $389 (prices go up depending on shaft selection).
The focus on the PTI driver is accuracy - hitting the ball straight - but KZG focuses on that in a traditional teardrop-shaped geometry, a geometry that the company says is also more aerodynamically efficient.
The driver head features a titanium cup face insert, high MOI and two portals in the sole of the club for weighted screws that give the golfer options for customizing trajectory, swingweight and center of gravity location.
The KZG PTI Driver comes in lofts of 9, 10.5, 12 and 14 degrees for right-handers and 10.5 and 12 degrees for lefties. More info: kzg.com
Fourteen Golf ST-110 Driver
The Fourteen Golf ST-110 driver has what the company calls a hybrid titanium crown. The chassis of the clubhead utilizes one type of titanium closer to the clubface, but a different, lighter titanium in the rear of the clubhead. The saved weight allows the center of gravity to be moved down, closer to the sole, which gives the golfer a little boost in achieving a higher launch.
Fourteen Golf touts the shallow face of the new driver, with its variable thickness - thicker in the center, thinner at the edges - that is wider than typical.
The design results, the company says, in a driver that appears smaller and with a more traditional shape.
The Fourteen Golf ST-110 driver carries an MSRP of $699.99. More info: fourteengolf.com
Cobra Baffler Rail Fairway Woods
There's nothing baffling about Cobra Golf's decision to extend its Baffler franchise into a new club category. They have a good thing going.
The original Baffler utility wood helped launch the hybrid club category (or re-launch it, rather, since hybrid-like clubs were ubiquitous in the early years of clubmaking before fading in the early 20th century). Over the ensuing years, Cobra has updated and modernized the Baffler hybrid with various iterations, including the Baffler Rail Hybrid introduced in Spring 2010.
Hot on the heels of that Baffler Rail hybrid is a Baffler that's not a hybrid, the Baffler Rail Fairway.
The Baffler fairway wood has a 17-4 stainless steel chassis with a maraging steel clubface, a low and deep center of gravity and high MOI for high launch and forgiveness.
And it takes its name from the same sole rails found on the Baffler Rail Hybrid. The 4-way rail sole of the fairway woods reduces turf drag, helps the club better glide through rough, and therefore, Cobra Golf says, improves ballstriking and shot control.
The Cobra Baffler Rail Fairway woods come in lofts of 15.5 (3-wood), 18 (5-wood) and 20 (7-wood) degrees, with a Fujikura Motore graphite shaft standard. A women's model comes in lofts of 18, 20 and 22 with a 50-gram Fujikura Baffler Rail F graphite shaft. The clubs hit pro shops in early June with an MSRP of $185. More info: cobragolf.com

Miura K Grind Wedge
Miura Golf's K Grind wedge certainly has a distinctive look. The sole is fluted or notched; it might appear to some as a wave-like design, or as finger slots or hill-and-dale.
But what are those areas of sole relief actually supposed to accomplish? According to Miura Golf, the K Grind sole helps the wedge move through rough or sand more efficiently, particularly in wet conditions; and can help a golfer avoid catching it fat on long bunker shots; and avoid deceleration on quarter- and half-shots around the green.
The Miura K Grind wedge is available in 56-degree loft only at the time of its debut. The MSRP is $250. More info: miuragolf.com
