Food And A Celebration They Go Hand In Hand - The 50th Wedding Anniversary Party
When I was spearheading the plans for my parent's 50th wedding anniversary celebration the first thing that came to mind was what to serve?I love to cook and create tasty treats for parties and special events.
Maybe a gourmet meal of some sort or something casual; I was not sure what to do? Okay, simple solution speak to my parents to determine what kind of event they would like to have, food options, who would they like to attend, etc.
My mothers answer was, oh nothing fancy and we just want you kids and our grandchildren.
No friends, just our family.
I used my fingers and toes and determined there would be no more then 20 people.
Mom's request was to keep it simple, but of course I wanted to make it special and simple food options were not what I had in mind.
I knew Mom didn't want me to go to that much trouble! Then I got to thinking about my parents and thought, what does it takes to stay married for 50 years? How does one honor such a milestone? How can I depict this major life event in a 5 hour celebration? As I thought about my options I wanted to take a personal approach to this event.
There are companies out there today that do amazing work with DVD presentations with pictures and music.
These last about 3 minutes.
But I wanted something different.
I am very good with PowerPoint so I thought, scan old photos and personalize the presentation.
I started this process in January of 2008 and by April 30th 2008 I had all the photos scanned.
I organized them by years and milestones.
I picked goofy photos, funny shots, wedding photos, birthday celebrations and vacations.
And let me tell you it was a wonderful success.
My family had the best time watching the slide show.
We laughed and laughed, it was very special for all of us.
As for the food, I decided on an elegant gourmet buffet.
I served a crab dip, fresh veggies, a variety of cheeses breads and crackers for our social hour.
For the main course I served my famous standing rib roast, pepper garlic crusted pork tenderloin, potatoes gratin, broccoli salad, mixed greens salad with peaches, feta, walnuts and homemade balsamic raspberry vinaigrette along with grilled garlic bread.
Dessert of course was a cake.
I took their wedding photo and another photo; they were scanned onto the cake, each of the photos really showed how much love they had for each other.
The cake was perfect, they loved it.
The day of food and celebration was perfect.
If you are wondering what it takes to make it to 50 years, well for my parents, lots of fun and support for each others dreams and wishes, and laughing at each other and with each other.
Did they have their ups and downs, up bet they did.
.
.
but they never gave up on each other or their marriage.
Life is short; so celebrate whenever you can.
