How do I Use Tyvek on T1-11?
- 1). Inspect the exterior T1-11 siding for damage, mildew, rot or warping. Replace any damaged sections with new plywood.
- 2). Begin wrapping Tyvek around the home by starting at a corner of the building at ground level. Leave between 6 and 12 inches of overlap at the corner.
- 3). Insert Tyvek fasteners every 8 inches into the studs of the home's frame. Tyvek has lines printed every 8 inches to assist you in locating studs quickly. Place vertical fasteners no closer than 6 inches and no farther than 18 inches apart from each other along the same stud.
- 4). Continue wrapping and fastening the first row of Tyvek around the home. If you exhaust a roll, begin a new roll with inches of overlap of the prior sheet and continue to fasten along the stud lines. You should wrap over door and window openings.
- 5). Begin a second row of Tyvek wrap once the first one is complete. Allow for a 6-inch overlap along the bottom of the second row to create a shingle to create a proper moisture barrier.
- 6). Repeat the wrapping of Tyvek sheeting until you reach the roof line of the home.
- 7). Staple the sheeting along the roof line with 1-inch crown staples every 6 to 18 inches.
- 8). Tape over all vertical and horizontal seams with Tyvek tape to ensure a complete moisture barrier.
