Language and Math Objectives

• Your child will receive organized instruction on simple language and math concepts. She will be taught the alphabet, both lower- and upper-case letters, the phonetics of pronouncing the alphabet, its order and comprehension skills through listening. She might also be taught to distinguish between reality and fantasy through the telling of stories. She will be also taught to count, up to what number depends on the school. She will be taught patterns and sets of numbers through game activities that require recognizing number patterns. She will also be taught her odd and even numbers.
  
  

Science

• Your child's first foray into science will be a discussion of seasons, days and months. He will be taught the concept of the passing of time in terms of day, night, morning, afternoon and evening. He will be taught the meaning of yesterday, today and tomorrow. There will also be books presented about insects, the human body and nature.
  
  

Social Development

• Perhaps one of the most important parts of preschool is social development. Learning to play with others, share and handle conflict successfully are tantamount to being successful socially in grade school and beyond. These skills are learned in the home and community at large first and then refined in preschool. Principles like sharing, accepting different cultures, taking care of his own bathroom needs, positive self esteem, and playing well with other children will all be addressed and taught.
  
  

Arts and Coordination

• Most of us remember finger painting, gluing and cutting as our first art projects in school. In preschool, your child will be taught about rhythm through musical exercises. She will be taught to sing songs, rhyme and draw simple shapes. Paints, clay and glue will also be used to foster your child's individual creativity. Arts education is where many preschools will differ in their specific approach. Some schools will have dress-up and dramatic play. Other schools will focus on coordination as well through games like tossing a bean back and crawling through a tunnel.
