How to Increase a Boy's Interest in Sports
- 1). Introduce a boy to a wide variety of sports by providing the equipment and playing with him. Go to the local park and have a baseball or football catch. Take a basketball to a court and shoot around. Take the boy to a driving range and let him hit golf balls. This gives boys an introduction to sports without having to commit to a full season. When presented with many options, the boy may find a sport that he thoroughly enjoys.
- 2). Enroll the boy in a sports league that he expresses an interest in. If he is reluctant, find a team that includes some of the boy's friends. He will be more willing to join a league if he gets to hang out with his friends. Once a boy starts playing an organized sport, he will decide whether he likes it or not.

Watch sports on television together. Be available to answer any questions the boy may have regarding the rules of a particular sport. A boy may get confused, but when he understands what is happening during a game, he can enjoy the sport being played. - 4). Take the boy to a professional sports event. If you have the means, sit close to the field or court, giving the boy an up-close look at the players and how the sport works. Viewing professional sports in person helps boys develop a personal connection to the players, making them want to emulate certain exciting athletes.
- 5). Encourage the boy and be supportive. When the sports become stressful or full of pressure, a boy may want to quit. Be a positive influence and make sports an enjoyable experience.
