There is no absolute indication of pregnancy based on signs or symptoms in the first few weeks. Most early symptoms of being pregnant are caused by changing hormones, which can also occur for other reasons, such as starting or ending birth control pills, illness, fatigue, stress, change in life conditions or environment, etc. Having one or more of these symptoms may mean it would be a good idea to take an early pregnancy test (EPT). Over the counter pregnancy tests are usually very accurate, but even then, a blood test from a health care professional is the only 100% way to know in the early stages. Here are some early indicators of pregnancy. These signs and symptoms do not mean you definitely are pregnant, but they are indicators that it could be possible.

My period Is late, or I missed my period. Does that mean I'm pregnant? Of course a late or missed menstrual period suggests you might be pregnant, but this sign of pregnancy can have other explanations. Changes in stress or diet and other causes can lead to a missed or late period, or to an unusually light menstrual period. In addition, one early sign of pregnancy can be light spotting, which can be mistaken for a light period.

I feel nausea and sick to my stomach. Could that mean I'm pregnant? Feeling nauseous in the morning, or any other time during be a sign of being pregnant. But nausea can of course have several other causes. Being sick to your stomach as a sign of pregnancy occurs as early as two weeks after conception, and may not occur at all.

Are darkening or darkened nipples a sign of being pregnant? The nipple and the area around (the areolas) may begin to darken as early as the first week or two after conception. It may be some time before this sign is noticeable.

My breasts feel sore, sensitive, tingly and itchy. Could tender, swollen, itchy breasts be a sign of being pregnant? Tender and sensitive breasts can occur before a period or during hormonal changes caused by other reasons. As a pregnancy symptom, this often occurs one or two weeks after conception, and may include a sensation of itchy, tingly breasts.

I have been having back aches and some headaches.. Is that a sign of pregnancy? Lower back pains and back aches, as well as headaches, can occur during pregnancy, and may begin as early as two weeks after conception. Of course there are other possible causes as well, including other reasons for mild to moderate hormonal changes.

I feel unusually tired, fatigued, and exhausted. Is that one of the early signs of pregnancy? While there can be other reasons for these symptoms as well, such as a mild virus, diet, stress, etc., they can indicate you are pregnant. These symptoms of low energy and fatigue usually arise from 1 to 6 weeks after conception, and are primarily because of high levels of progesterone, the primary hormone which is secreted when you are pregnant.

If you have any of these early signs and symptoms of pregnancy, consider taking a home pregnancy test, as well as getting a complete test done at a professional clinic. The information on this page should not replace any professional medical diagnosis or advice.
