Chainsaw Chain Installation
- 1). Put on a pair of leather palm gloves to prevent cuts from sharp chainsaw chain teeth.
- 2). Push the chain brake handle forward to engage the chain break.
- 3). Unscrew the bar nuts with the spanner wrench or a ratchet and the correct socket. The bar nuts will be located on the lower-left of the chainsaw body. They hold on both the clutch cover and the chainsaw bar.
- 4). Remove the clutch cover once the nuts have been taken off. This will allow access to both the chainsaw bar and the drive sprocket.
- 5). Slide the chain bar backwards over the chainsaw bar bolts. If there is an older chain on the bar, remove it at this time.
- 6). Slip the chainsaw chain onto the chain drive sprocket. It will loop over the sprocket, and the drive links on the chain will conform to the teeth on the sprocket. Align the cutting edges of the chainsaw teeth so that they are facing forward and away from the chainsaw body. Slide the drive links on the bottom of the chain into the drive link groove along the bar. Work the chain in this way until all of the drive links are situated into the drive link groove around the entire chain bar.
- 7). Push the clutch cover back into place onto the bar bolts. Screw on the the clutch cover nuts until they are hand-tight. Do not tighten them any farther than hand-tight at this point.
- 8). Insert a screwdriver, or the screwdriver end attached of the spanner wrench, into the the chain-tightening adjustment screw. The adjustment screw is located directly beneath the bar bolts which are used to attach the clutch cover. The screw will be accessible from the lower front left, next to the chainsaw bar.
- 9). Turn the screw in a clockwise rotation to begin tightening the chain on the bar. Continue tightening the chain until all noticeable chain sagging disappears. Spin the chain along the bar. It must not sag, yet it must move freely around the rim of the bar. Tighten as needed until these conditions have been met.
- 10
Tighten the clutch cover nuts firmly with the spanner wrench or a ratchet and socket, once you have achieved the correct chain tension.
