Advances made with auditorium seating have grown dramatically in recent years and led to not only changes in the way auditorium seating is made, but the features that can be incorporated with them.

Auditorium seating now has elements which are similar to stadium seating whilst retaining a more furniture-like feel.  They are ideal for seating for schools, seating for churches or lecture theatre seating, where there is terraced seating or a large open space.

For more information about the different types of auditorium seating or the features that are available, contact your local seating manufacturer.

Upholstered Seats

Unlike stadium seating, typical auditorium chairs will always be upholstered.  There is now a huge range of fabrics and often the decision will rely upon the intended use.  Some venues may opt for a durable, hard wearing stain resistant fabric, whilst others may want to place more emphasis on comfort and luxury and so opt for velvet.

Other Features

Auditorium seating now often incorporate other features which can enhance the style of seating systems and comfort of the user.
  • A range of desking and writing options are available in a choice of materials and finishes.  A fixed desk, a folding desk or a folding tablet are some examples that are used with auditorium seating for schools or lecture theatre seating.
  • Armrest options.  There are several options available including fixed or moveable armrests.
  • High back options.  These features may be considered when looking at more luxury seats to enhance the comfort of the user.
  • Seat numbering.  This is a common feature for use in theatres and cinemas.  It allows businesses to understand the capacity requirements of a venue and makes it easier for customers to find their seats!
  • Fixed or folding seating systems.  This is a personal decision and maybe influenced by the space available for auditorium seating and the intended use.
  • Cup holders or hymn book holders.  Again this is reflective of the intended use.  For auditorium seating in a theatre or cinema, cup holders are a good idea for customer satisfaction and to promote the sale of drinks and confectionery.  For auditorium seating in churches, hymn book holders could be an essential feature to have as part of the seating systems.

Whatever your need for auditorium seating, it is a good idea to contact several seating suppliers to discuss with them the options available for seating fabrics and other benefits they may offer to suit your needs.
