In an effort to make their handsets appeal to a wider audience Apple have opted to launch their famous iPhone 4 model in an 8GB version. With the iPhone 4S likely to corner the more premium end of the market it is hoped that this handset will attract the consumer looking for a more attractively priced phone. Here we take a look at the iPhone 4 8GB and compare it with the HTC Sensation, another model due to fall in price thanks to the introduction of the new Sensation XE.

The HTC Sensation runs on the Google Android operating system and come with version 2.3 installed. This platform is very pleasing on the eye with the now familiar seven page homescreen and colourful icons. The OS is overlayed with the latest version of the HTC Sense user interface. Sense UI is widely regarded as the best system of its kind and features some superb social networking facilities together with a functional notification system. The iPhone 4 8GB has undergone an overhaul in the sense that the phone can now be upgraded to iOS5, the operating system designed for use on the iPhone 4S. This update puts the model ahead of the Sensation in this department thanks to excellent facilities such as the iCloud system that backs up your data remotely. This feature gives the phone a true PC free experience enabling the handset to be updated without any USB cables. Moving away from software and focusing on the hardware aspects of these models and it is clear to see that the Sensation may hold the upper hand. This models packs a hefty 1.2 Ghz dual core processor beneath its bonnet. This ensures that operation of the phone is lightning fast and superior to the majority of handsets currently available. The iPhone 4 8GB give the Sensation a good run for its money however despite only offering a 1Ghz single core chip. Thanks to the power saving properties of Apples multi tasking less strain is placed on the chip and it certainly rivals many of its dual core counterparts.

Both the iPhone 4 8GB and the HTC Sensation offer a high standard of multi media features. In the imaging department the HTC takes some beating thanks to a digital still camera capable of photographing images at a resolution of 8 million pixels which is 60% higher than what the Apple device can offer. Things are a little more evenly matched when it comes to video capture with both handsets offering high definition standard at a resolution of 720P. The area where the iPhone has always excelled is audio playback and once again the musical side of the Sensation is no match for the excellent iPod software that is offered on the iPhone. Cover art looks glorious in carousel model and there is a multitude of classification systems to enable you to quickly and easily find the track that you require. Both models offer a 3.5mm headphone socket so you can listen to your music whilst on the move and bluetooth is also incorporated for wireless transfer to compatible devices.

If you ignore the glossy new models that are available there are some real bargains to be had with slightly older generation models and these two handsets are two prime examples. The iPhone 4 8GB has the edge with regards to screen, styling and operating system whilst the Sensation offers more power together with a superior still camera. All things considered these are two very evenly matched models.
