Summer Day Camps in Montgomery County, Maryland

Montgomery County includes large cities like Rockville, Gaithersburg, Bethesda and Silver Spring, plus smaller cities like Cabin John, Boyd and Potomac. The county, home to many who work in nearby Washington, D.C., offers a smorgasbord of 60 summer camps for children 2 years old and up.
Held at a variety of venues, the day camps last from one to five days. Boy Scouts and Webelos can sign up for camp to earn merit and activity badges. - Archaeology Camp is a full-day summer camp for children 9 to 13 at Needwood Mansion in Rockville. Campers get hands-on instruction from an archaeologist in proper methods and practices while working on a dig. Camp is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. A four-day session is Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Archaeology Leader Training Workshop for Teens teaches campers ages 14 and up how to be a camp counselor. Campers learn how to create and plan camp activities as well as learning safety, first aid and basic archaeological methods. Camp is five days from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Archaeology Camp Extended Care features special activities for children in the afternoons. Campers play board games, ride paddleboats on Lake Needwood and practice with an atlati, a prehistoric hunting weapon. Extended Care is for children 9 to 13 and is held Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Mansion.

montgomeryparks.org - Nuts About Nature teaches children aged 8 to 10 about insects, earth science, trees and conservation. Campers explore their natural surroundings in this five-day camp held Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Extended Care is 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Bug Camp teaches children 6 to 8 years of age about insects that live in various habitats. A field trip to the "Wings of Fancy" Butteryfly Exhibit is included. The five-day, partial day camp is Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
Parent & Child Nature Camp gives you a chance to explore and learn about nature right along with your child. For parents with children aged 3 to 6, the partial-day camp is held from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Tuesday through Friday or from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The last day of camp features a fieldtrip to hunt for shark teeth at the beach. Transportation is not provided to the beach.
Wild About Wildlife is a five-day camp for children 6 to 9 years of age to learn about the daily lives of animals in different habitats. Campers explore the outdoors and enjoy nature-centered crafts and games from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Extended Care is from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m to 6 p.m.

One four-day session is held the same hours Tuesday through Friday. Campers enjoy ice skating lessons, free skating time for practicing, arts, crafts, tennis lessons and a nature program. Skaters are grouped according to age and ability and each camper receives a free camp T-shirt. A half-day version of this camp for children ages 9 to 12 is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Tennis & Ice Skating Camp teaches campers ages 8 to 13 the fundamentals of both sports. The five-day camp is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Cabin John Freestyle Camp allows the advanced ice skater aged 6 and older to learn more about the skill while practicing advanced moves like spins and jumps. Camp is five days, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.
