The world is flabbergasted to see the U.
S.
President Obama doing a back flip on outsourcing; however this sudden change of opinion has enabled IT/BPO industry to breathe a sigh of relief.
Unlike the anti-outsourcing campaign that he has been leading until now, Obama now holds an opinion that all those who're against outsourcing companies are stereotypes.
Voicing his new opinion about outsourcing on his recent India visit, Obama said, "US companies are creating jobs with tech in US and Indian businesses will take those technologies to expand growth and jobs in India and US.
" Obama's new avatar has been appreciated by the resilient Indian IT industry.
However, the industry is still busy figuring out the reasons, which might have contributed in changing Obama's mind.
One plausible reason that seems apparent is the sincere endeavors put in by the IT lobby in terms of work so that the concept of outsourcing and consultancy services are looked upon in a better light.
Nasscom President Som Mittal said, ""Now that in public they have accepted the fact that is stereo type that exists, Obama himself said that he is going to work on changing those perception.
It's a positive development.
But we will have to see how it translates on the ground.
" Giving the world the proof that he no longer opposes outsourcing to India, Obama declared over 20 deals worth US$ 10 billion across varied domains such as aircraft, turbines, and mining equipment, on the first day of his visit to India.
These gestures come as a surprise to Indian outsourcing industry & outsourcing consultants since only some months back, the U.
S President put in his best possible endeavors to step up his anti-outsourcing campaign.
With Obama joining the senate, certain new immigration laws had been introduced in the U.
S.
to make outsourcing a tough proposition for Indian outsourcing companies.
More so, visa costs shot up manifold and the numbers of visas issued were reduced from 195,000 to mere 65,000.
