Fantasy Hockey Injury Update: Semin, Getzlaf, and Brodeur

There is some good news, and some not so good news, regarding three important veteran players in today's fantasy hockey injury update.

Alexander Semin:

After sitting out 12 straight games due to a groin injury, Semin returns to the Capitals lineup tonight when Washington plays host to San Jose. Prior to his injury Semin had been extremely streaky this season, but overall he has an impressive 18 goals and 35 points in 39 games.

Seven of his goals have come on special teams (six on the power play, one shorthanded), which is always a nice plus in the eyes of fantasy hockey owners. If you have had Semin on your injured list---or just as an extra forward---make sure you activate him immediately.

Ryan Getzlaf:

The Ducks get their captain back in the lineup tomorrow night after a 14-game absence, and fantasy hockey owners who have Getzlaf should make sure to activate him immediately. Though marketedly down with his penalty minutes this season (only 27)---which takes away from his overall value since he is a rare point-producer who also usually garners quite a few penalty minutes---Getzlaf will give his fantasy hockey owners a nice boost upon his retrun. Getzlaf has 13 goals, 24 assists, and 37 points in 40 games, with five of those goals coming on the power play. Keep an eye on Getzlaf, too, because he is returning to a Ducks team that is playing quite well, which could lead to some good quick point-production for him.

Martin Brodeur:

Brodeur tweaked his knee in Sunday's victory over Montreal, and he not only will not start tonight against the Hurricanes, he will not even dress as Johan Hedberg's back-up. Mike McKenna has been recalled from the minors to serve as Hedberg's back-up, though the Devils have not indicated how serious Brodeur's knee injury is. Fantasy hockey owners should take heed and sit Brodeur; and for owners that have Hedberg as a third goalie option, make sure to insert him into your lineup. The Devils are playing their best hockey of the season at present and Hedberg could be the benficiary of some important wins for his fantasy hockey owners as a result.
