BTK Killer Moves Out of Wichita"s Sight and Mind

Dennis Rader, sentenced to 10 consecutive life sentences for his BTK killings, is no longer the center of attention, no longer in the spotlight, and hopefully soon will no longer be on the minds of the people of Wichita, Kansas.
The former church leader, Boy Scout volunteer, and Park City enforcement officer, who loved media attention even while hiding his secret life as the bind, torture, kill serial killer, is now in an 80 sq.

ft. cell, sleeping on a concrete slab bunk, and stripped of all of his memorabilia of his sexual fantasies.

Rader was transferred to El Dorado state prison where he will undergo two weeks of evaluation to determine whether he will remain at El Dorado or be moved to another maximum-security prison.

He will have no television or radio, limited access to reading material, and will only leave his cell for three showers and five one-hour exercise periods per week. Even during his five recreation periods, he will remain shackled in restraints.

Possessions Seized

As Rader was taken to prison, Judge Timothy Lahey signed a temporary order to hold all of his personal effects and in essence froze all of his assets, at the request of attorneys for the families of his victims, who hope to keep him from profiting on the sale of any of his possessions.

Because those convicted of crimes can request that their property be returned after their court cases are complete, the Judge's order, if made permanent, would ensure that he never gets his hands on items used in his sexual fantasies.

As the following articles show, the Wichita community is beginning to heal from its 31-year ordeal with the BTK serial killer:
