How to Troubleshoot Problems With My Sears Upright Vacuum
- 1). Plug the power cord securely into a live outlet if you have the on/off switch set to "on" but the motor is not turning. Also, check the fuses or circuit breaker that supplies that particular outlet to ensure it hasn't tripped. Exchange the on/off switch for a new one if your troubleshooting techniques don't work.
- 2). Remove any debris or obstructions from the impeller if your vacuum has low suction power. The impeller is located with the fan as part of the motor and typically has several flexible blades. Change the bag if you have a "bagged" model and it is full. Contact your power company to ask to have your voltage checked if your vacuum is free of debris.
- 3). Secure any loose parts on the outside of the vacuum that may be causing excess vibration if it makes a lot of noise when in use. Remove any debris from the impeller and consider having the motor assembly balanced if the other if nothing visible is causing the noise.
- 4). Remove any foreign matter that is lodged in the hose or exchange any hose parts that have been bent if your can't make a connection with the hose.
