According to the National Sleep Foundation (NSF) sleep is very important for our general health and well-being.
Still, millions of people all over the world are not getting enough sleep or are not giving themselves the chance to have sufficient and satisfactory sleep.
Many are suffering from various sleep disorders because they lack sleep.
There have been surveys conducted by the NSF in the past years that reveal the number of 40 million Americans suffering from around 70 various types of sleep disorders.
Their researches have also turned up with the figure of 60% of the adult population in the US are having difficulties in sleeping several nights each week or even more.
Most of the people who are suffering from these kinds of sleeping problems were going on with their lives, undiagnosed and untreated.
Moreover, more than 40% of the adult population is experiencing daytime sleepiness which is severe enough that it interferes with their conduct of daily chores and activities.
These kinds of instances usually happen a few days every month.
20% of this number report that they have a problem with sleepiness that lasts a few, consecutive days, going on to a week and more.
Sadly, among the children population, 69% have experience with about one or more types of sleeping difficulties for several nights, a week or even more than a week.
If you lack sleep, more often than not, this is characterized by moodiness, irritability, and disinhibition.

For healthy adult individuals, they are usually built to last 16 hours of wakefulness.
Then they need have at least 8 hours of sleep every night.
Meanwhile, some people can survive without becoming sleepy or drowsy even after only 6 hours of sleep.
As we age, our ability to sleep is significantly reduced, but this doesn't mean that our need for sleep is also reduced.
Whatever age you are in, if you want to maintain a healthy lifestyle and general wellbeing, then you must make it a point to up sleep's level of importance in your life.
