Red Skin Eruptions From Allergies Or Stress

Hives are skin rash otherwise known as urticaria. They are a skin allergy or rash and cause raised welts on the surface of the skin that appear with a pale center and a red encircling "halo" or ring. They come in different shapes and sizes and can appear on any area of the body and have many different causes.

Very often hives are itchy, and it's possible to mistake them for a mosquito or other insect bites. Most doctors prescribe antihistamines since the cause of the redness is histamine which is released throughout the body. Antihistamines and corticosteroids however treat the symptoms and not the cause.

Histamine is naturally produced by the immune system to fight allergens that enter the body. The rash is usually caused by the histamine and not by the allergen itself.

Allergens can come in many shapes and forms and the most easily identifiable causes can be reactions to a number of reasons .

Drugs can be a factor including, but not limited to penicillin, codeine, antibiotics, blood pressure medicines that contain ACE inhibitors, aspirin and Phenobarbital.

Extreme cold or heat through water or sun exposure may be another cause. Food allergies which can come from eating or touching things like eggs, peanuts, wheat, shellfish, fish or milk to name the most common ones. Food additives including colorings and preservatives may be a contributor as well.

Seasonal reasons can include reactions to sweat during the summer, parasites from travel and insect bites.

Anxiety and stress are noted by many as a trigger for their eruptions and these can occur due to work pressures, school deadlines, family issues and money concerns.

Unfortunately the majority of cases of chronic urticaria which is an outbreak of hives that lasts longer than six weeks, have no identifiable cause.

If you or one of your children suffers from regular outbreaks of hives keep a daily journal of what you come in contact with and exactly what you eat. This may make it easier for a physician to understand your hives causes and for you to avoid whatever it is that is making you break out.

For example if you are your child breaks out in hives after prolonged sun exposure you will need to keep him or her covered up when going outside. By keeping a journal you may realize that you break out in hives after you have eaten shellfish for example, and this kind of food allergy is quite common.

The more proactive you are in finding the causes,the easier it will be for a physician, or you to find a solution to your problem.
