Home Economics Tips
- Home economics is the study of homemaking, which includes child care, clothing, nutrition and budgeting. Through the study of home economics, any consumer can save money, be more efficient in the home and create a better environment at home for the family as a whole.
- Use your bread slices, such as those from bread leftover from a meal or from the end of a loaf of bread, to make homemade breadcrumbs. Use these breadcrumbs for coating meat or as a pasta topping, especially when tossed with herbs, lemon zest and Parmesan cheese.
- Freeze leftover cooking wine in an icecube tray or a sandwich bag. Use it as a deglazing agent. Saute your meat, and then add a 1/2 cup of leftover wine and stir in a pat of butter.
- Keep pasta, flour, and sugar fresher, longer by placing each in an airtight canister, as opposed to keeping it in its original container.
- Save money at the grocery store by using coupons. Clip coupons found in the Sunday newspaper, as well as those found online. Sign up for your favorite store's customer rewards program. Combine coupons with items on sale to stretch your dollar even further.
- Keep children occupied in the grocery store and teach them money saving lessons at the same time by showing them price comparison shopping. Teach young children to find the cheapest price, and teach older children how to compare the per unit price to find the cheapest overall item.
